Groupe PEK

Through their efforts to be a leader in the development and exploitation of natural resources in their ancestral Aboriginal territory, Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan, an Innu community located in the region of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec, has been active in the domain of renewable energy, notably in biomass, wind and hydroelectricity.  Minashtuk, Val-Jalbert and the 11th falls of the Mistassini River are notable examples of community renewable energy projects.

With the desire to consolidate their energy sector and sustained growth operations, Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan established the Groupe Pek limited partnership in 2014.  This entirely Aboriginal company has the mandate to develop community renewable energy projects for the benefit of the communities.

This important step is integrated from within an process to support political, cultural, social and economic independence. For Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan, long-term development must remain the key to support the economic foundation.  It is within this framework that many financial and human efforts were devoted to contribute to the economic advancement of the Aboriginal community.  With the title as promoter or primary partner, Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan has also directly contributed to numerous major economic projects in the Nitassinan region, the vast traditional ancestral territory of the Mashteuiatsh.
