In collaboration with successful partnerships, Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan has successfully developed during the past 20 years, community projects that exploit the full potential of renewable energy and respect the principles of sustainable development.

In the 1990's, when the time came to ensure their economic development, Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan decided to use hydroelectricity for their projects because it is clean energy and especially, renewable that is etched with the DNA of Quebec. The choice to focus their hydroelectric production of their projects towards management using water because the production of energy is the most ecological and respectful toward the environment. It is also the type of renewable energy production that has shown the most positive long-term economic return because of the low cost of equipment maintenance.

Under the title of majority partner with the Hydro-Ilnu company, they produced the small hydroelectric station at the Minashtuk waters' edge on Mistassibi River, near the city of Dolbeau-Mistassini. With an available capacity of 9.9 MW, the station began operations in 1999.

In 2007, Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan divided equal shares among the regional county municipality (RCM) of Domaine-du-Roy and Maria-Chapdelaine, present on their ancestral Nitassinan territory to form the Société de l'Énergie Communautaire du Lac-Saint-Jean and develop renewable energy projects on their common lands. From this partnership, two small hydroelectric station projects were created that generate 16 MW each. The Ouiatchouan River project at the Village Historique de Val-Jalbert is under construction and the one located on the 11th falls of the Mistassini River is in development.
